 Laws in
force define the minimum values of luminous intensity to be adopted in
workplaces:
- rooms employed for the storing of voluminous materials 10 lux;
- passages, corridors and staircases 20 lux;
- rough jobs 40 lux;
- average refined jobs 100 lux;
- refined jobs 200 lux;
- highly refined jobs 300 lux;
These data represent the minimum requirements to comply with the law,
however optimization should be sought by employing higher levels of
lighting and by implementing some basic rules:
- the light should be focused on the working surface;
- uncovered light sources should be excluded from the visual field;
- reverberation must be avoided by eliminating reflecting surfaces;
Indicative data on the lighting level to be adopted in relation to the
activity are as follows:
- offices (clerical work, accountancy, typewriting) 400-800 lux;
- offices (design work) 750-1500 lux.
